Threads surpasses X in daily users on mobile devices
The number of daily active users of Meta's Threads social media platform on mobile devices has surpassed that of platform X, according to a report by market intelligence firm Similarweb.

According to Similarweb data quoted in Tech Crunch news on Sunday (18/1), Threads as of January 7, 2026 had 141.5 million daily active users on iOS and Android apps, while X only had around 125 million daily active users on mobile devices.

Platform X still outperforms Threads in web-based usage figures, but Threads app usage on mobile devices shows a continued upward trend.

The increase in daily Threads usage on mobile devices is likely driven by factors such as cross-promotion from larger Meta social apps like Facebook and Instagram, where Threads regularly advertises to users, its focus on creators, and the rapid rollout of new features.

In the past year, Threads has added features like interest-based communities, better filters, direct messaging, long texts, temporary uploads, and even a gaming feature trial.
