The South China Morning Post reported that Chinese scientists have created the world's first 20-gigawatt microwave weapon that can operate continuously for a minute and destroy satellites in low orbit.

According to the newspaper, the TPG1000Cs is the world's first compact generator for a high-energy microwave weapon, capable of generating 20 gigawatts of power for up to a full minute.

The newspaper noted that this weapon was developed by engineers at the Northwest Institute of Nuclear Technology in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province. The device is approximately four meters long and weighs about five tons, making it small enough to be mounted on trucks, warships, or even satellites.

According to Chinese experts, this ground-based weapon could cause serious damage to Starlink satellites, or completely destroy them, in low Earth orbit.

The newspaper pointed out that similar systems currently in operation cannot run continuously for more than three seconds, and are also much larger. For example, the Russian "Sinus-7" system produces about 100 pulses per cycle and weighs approximately 10 tons, according to the newspaper.
