The European Union (EU) has urged TikTok to change the design of its services, which it considers addictive. Otherwise, the platform faces a hefty fine.
The BBC website, Saturday (7/2) local time, reported that this request came after the EU concluded that the video sharing platform had violated online safety rules.
This decision is the result of a European Commission investigation that began in February 2024 into the Chinese company's app.
In its interim findings, the European Commission stated that TikTok did not "adequately assess" the impact of features like autoplay on the health and well-being of its users, including children. It also found that TikTok failed to implement measures to mitigate these risks.
A TikTok spokesperson said the findings were a “completely false and baseless” portrayal of their platform, and TikTok planned to challenge them.
