Chinese figure skating duo Sui Wenjing and Han Cong expressed their relief after finishing fifth in the pairs event at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics on Monday (16/2).
After battling persistent pain and returning from retirement, Chinese figure skating pair Sui Wenjing and Han Cong finished fifth at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, demonstrating their fighting spirit on the Olympic stage.
The reigning Olympic champion delivered a determined performance at the 2026 Winter Games despite facing a number of ongoing physical challenges, particularly for Sui.
Sui revealed that she had been battling persistent pain in the lead-up to the competition.
"Every day is really hard for me. Even when I sleep, I still feel pain. Every day, I feel pain in certain parts of my body," Sui said. "I take medication to finish this competition. I take medication to sleep. Also, when I'm trying to recover my muscles, it's painful."
Han, Sui's teammate, who returned to action after three years of retirement, expressed his satisfaction with their performance.
"I'm satisfied with today's performance, and even though I retired three years ago, my friends, family, and my entire team supported and encouraged me to compete in these Olympics," Han said.
