Ghana has decided to lower the farm gate price of cocoa to US$3,580 per metric ton from US$5,300 previously.
Pricing for the remainder of the 2025/2026 season according to the announcement made Thursday by the Ghanaian Ministry of Finance.
The authorities cite the need to stimulate demand in a context marked by falling prices worldwide. In one year, cocoa prices have halved, falling to nearly US$4,000 per metric ton.
Ghana is the world's second-largest producer of cocoa. The current downturn in the sector is a major blow to many inhabitants for whom cocoa farming is their main source of income.
Accra is exploring various avenues to improve the pricing mechanism in line with international standards and to guarantee the interests of producers.
