The Indonesian government has implemented restrictions on social media access for children and adolescents through regulations in Government Regulation (PP) Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of Electronic Systems for Child Protection or PP Tunas.
The Tunas PP regulates children's access to digital platforms in detail, dividing them into age groups and risk classifications. These regulations include requirements for parental consent and supervision tailored to the risk level of the platform accessed.
Along with this policy, a number of social media platforms have implemented protection features for underage users as well as parental controls.
The platform automatically applies default settings that limit the user experience for teens to make it safer than for adult accounts, thus preventing exposure to age-inappropriate content.
Meta, for example, introduced a “ Teen Account ” feature on Facebook and Messenger that limits teens’ access to sensitive content and interactions with unknown parties.
