Russia commemorates Navalny at his grave amid poison tests

As mourners laid flowers, foreign diplomats stood by in a rare public show of support. Lyudmila Navalnaya said the family was still waiting for a clear explanation for her son's death. Representatives from the embassies of Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, and Latvia attended the gathering, despite concerns for their personal safety. This weekend, several European governments indicated that laboratory tests confirmed poisoning by a rare toxin associated with poison dart frogs. They said it does not occur naturally in Russia. Navalny, a fierce critic of President Vladimir Putin, died in 2024 in an Arctic penal colony, where he was serving a long sentence he described as politically motivated. The authorities deny any responsibility and cite natural causes. For many here, the questions remain unanswered.
