At least 28 people were killed and dozens more injured in a drone strike targeting a busy market in central Sudan, according to a human rights organization.
The attack occurred on Sunday at the Al-Safiya market, located near the town of Sodari in North Kordofan state. According to Emergency Lawyers, an organization that documents violations committed since the beginning of the Sudanese conflict, several drones struck the area during a busy period.
According to initial reports, the market was particularly busy at the time of the strikes. The organization reports the presence of numerous civilians, including women, children, and elderly people.
The death toll of 28 remains provisional and could rise, given the large number of injured.
Sudan has been embroiled in a war between the regular army and a rival paramilitary group for nearly three years. The clashes have caused thousands of casualties and a major humanitarian crisis.
At this stage, no one has been officially named as responsible for this attack.
