The Indonesian badminton team trailed Japan 0-1 in their second match of Group X of the 2026 Asian Team Championships (BATC) after first women's singles player Thalita Ramadhani Wiryawan lost to Riko Gunji at the Conson Gymnasium in Qingdao on Thursday.
Thalita, who is still 18 years old, was unable to match Gunji's game, who appeared more experienced, and finally lost with a score of 14-21, 16-21.
In the first game, Thalita struggled to escape Gunji's pressure. The Japanese player played aggressively with attacking lobs and powerful smashes, often forcing Thalita to defend.
A number of unforced errors and slower footwork caused Thalita to fall far behind and lose 14-21.
