Two Palestinians injured in settler attack in the Jordan Valley; 824 trees uprooted in the West Bank in one week
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a statement that its crews dealt with three injuries from beatings during an attack by settlers on the “Al-Makhba” area in the northern Jordan Valley, where one of the injuries was transferred to the hospital, while the other two injuries were treated on the spot.
This attack comes within the framework of escalating Israeli attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank, as a report by the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission on Tuesday stated that the army and settlers carried out approximately 1,872 attacks during January.
The commission noted that “the occupation army carried out 1,404 attacks, while settlers carried out 468 attacks,” pointing out that “these attacks were mainly concentrated in the Hebron Governorate with 415 attacks, followed by the Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate with 374 attacks, then the Nablus Governorate with 328 attacks, and the Jerusalem Governorate with 201 attacks, in a clear indication of the intensity of the systematic targeting of these areas.”
Losses exceeding $700,000
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture documented on Saturday that the Israeli occupation army and settlers uprooted 824 trees and stole 526 head of livestock during their attacks in the West Bank last week, resulting in direct losses exceeding $700,000.
The ministry said in a weekly report that Israeli violations against the agricultural sector between January 29 and February 5 included uprooting, cutting and breaking fruit trees, especially olive trees, demolishing and damaging agricultural facilities, destroying water sources, preventing farmers from accessing their lands and pastures, assaulting them and stealing livestock.
She explained that attacks by settlers and the Israeli army resulted in the uprooting of 824 trees and the theft of 526 head of livestock during the aforementioned period, estimating the direct losses at about $706,000.
She added that Hebron Governorate topped the list of the most affected governorates, especially the Masafer Yatta area in the south, with losses amounting to $618,142, calling on the international community and human rights and humanitarian organizations to provide urgent protection for Palestinian farmers, stop impunity, and hold the Israeli authorities accountable.
Since launching its war of extermination on the Gaza Strip on October 8, 2023, Israel has intensified its attacks in the West Bank, including killing, arrests, displacement, and settlement expansion, in a course that Palestinians see as paving the way for the formal annexation of the West Bank.
The attacks in the West Bank resulted in the martyrdom of at least 1,112 Palestinians, the injury of about 11,500, in addition to the arrest of more than 21,000, according to official data.
