A scientific team from Hungary identified a group of vitamins that should not be taken with coffee, as it can hinder their absorption and may cause harm to the body.
Studies indicate that moderate coffee consumption is beneficial for the heart and blood vessels, as it contains beneficial elements such as antioxidants, but it may hinder the absorption of some vitamins.
According to experts, coffee may affect the absorption of vitamin D , zinc , calcium , iron , and B vitamins , and in some cases may reduce their effectiveness completely.
A 2022 Swiss study on the effects of coffee on women showed that those with iron deficiency absorbed 54% less of the mineral when they took iron supplements with coffee compared to those who took it with water.
Scientists have also discovered that caffeine hinders the absorption of vitamin D because it reduces the sensitivity of its receptors, while the body's ability to absorb even trace amounts of the B vitamin group is reduced, as these elements are excreted directly in the urine due to the diuretic effect of coffee.
Experts point out the importance of avoiding consuming certain nutrients together, such as calcium hindering iron absorption, and zinc limiting copper absorption
.It is preferable to take nutritional supplements one to two hours before or two hours after drinking coffee to ensure optimal absorption of nutrients.
