WBC declares lightweight title vacant after Stevenson moves up a division

The World Boxing Council (WBC) has officially declared the WBC lightweight (61.2 kg) world champion title vacant after previous belt holder Shakur Stevenson moved up to a higher division.

"Considering that Stevenson is now the WBO (World Boxing Organization) super lightweight (63.5 kg) world champion and in accordance with WBC regulations, the WBC lightweight world champion title is vacant," said the WBC statement on its official website, which was monitored.

Stevenson captured Teofimo Lopez's WBO super lightweight world championship belt in a fight that took place on January 31, 2026. In that fight, Stevenson appeared dominant and recorded a convincing victory.
