Artem Isaev, a young researcher at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology in Russia, won the Russian President’s Prize for Science and Innovation for Young Scientists in 2025.

Russian Presidential Aide Andrei Fursenko announced that young researcher Artem Isaev from the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology had won the Russian President’s Prize for Science and Innovation for Young Scientists for 2025, at a press conference held at the Russian TASS news agency on the sidelines of the awards ceremony held on February 5 at the Kremlin.

Isaev received the award for his research in developing new antiviral bacterial immunity systems .

Fursenko commented: "The research is linked to the declining effectiveness of antibiotic use in light of the increasing activity of bacteria resistant to them. In order to combat infections, doctors have now returned to using other effective agents, which are viruses that were discovered a long time ago and can fight bacteria. After the advent of antibiotics, these viruses fell to second place, but they have reappeared again."

Fursenko noted that Isaev dedicated his research to "the ongoing war between viruses and bacteria," and to developing a system that allows viruses to be used to fight disease-causing bacteria.

It is worth noting that the Russian President’s Prize was established in 2008 to recognize young scientists for their significant contribution to the development of national science, designing new models of equipment and technologies that support innovative activity in the economy and the social sphere, and enhance the country’s defense capabilities.

Each prize has been worth five million rubles since 2019, and the awards ceremony often coincides with Russian Science Day , celebrated on February 8. Russian President Vladimir Putin usually presents the awards at a formal ceremony held in the Kremlin.
