Marciano Norman, Chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee, has asked administrators at 81 sports federations in Indonesia to take serious action to prevent sexual harassment against athletes in their respective federations.
"High-performance sports are not a place for sexual harassment. If it is proven to have occurred, strict sanctions must be imposed in accordance with applicable regulations to prevent such incidents from happening again," said Marciano Norman in an official statement.
He delivered his response to the emergence of cases of alleged physical violence and sexual harassment that were revealed through reports from rock climbers and kickboxers.
Marciano strongly condemned acts of sexual harassment in competitive sports that undermine the noble goal of leading athletes to success, raising the Red and White flag, and making the Indonesian national anthem resound on the international stage.
