Indonesian national team coach John Herdman emphasized that qualifying for the 2030 World Cup is the main mission he is currently working on with the Garuda squad.
"You mentioned World Cup qualification. That's the mission. Our goal is... We have 280 million reasons why we wake up every day to do what we do," Herdman said at a press conference after the FIFA Series match against St. Kitts and Nevis at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium.
“These guys have been very clear that we want to be the first men's team to qualify for the World Cup for this country and be in that special group, and have moments with every kid, grandparent, mother, father, in this country.”
He emphasized that the entire team's current process is geared toward that goal. He stated that a major victory like the 4-0 victory over St. Kitts and Nevis is just a small part of a long journey.
"It's a small step. We set the mentality. When we set the target of winning 4-0 with a clean sheet, we achieved it. It wasn't 3-0 or 2-0, but we were committed to achieving our target," he said.
