Report: FBI investigates US security official who resigned over war with Iran

The FBI has opened an investigation into the leak of information against Joe Kent, the former director of the National Counterterrorism Center, who resigned in protest against the war against Iran.

Four people with direct knowledge of the investigation told Semaphore that it is focusing on allegations that Kent improperly shared confidential information. They added that the investigation began before Kent's resignation, with one describing it as having lasted several months.

In his resignation letter, Kent wrote that Iran "posed no imminent threat to our nation," accusing President Donald Trump of starting the war "because of pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby."

Immediately after the resignation letter was published, Trump's aides and allies denounced Kent, calling him a leaker.

Both the FBI and the White House declined to comment on the investigation, and Kent has not yet responded to a request for comment.
