The World Boxing Council (WBC) has approved a voluntary title defense between WBC heavyweight (90.7 kg) world champion Oleksandr Usyk and legendary kickboxing champion Rico Verhoeven.
"The WBC granted Usyk's request for a voluntary title defense. Furthermore, the WBC received a petition to authorize the Usyk vs. Herhoeven fight," the WBC said in a statement on its official website, as monitored.
The WBC approved the fight after considering Oleksandr Usyk's impressive track record and activity level over the past few years. The Ukrainian is considered one of the most active champions in the heavyweight division, a rare occurrence in the modern era of boxing.
