A scientific study has revealed that metabolic syndrome may significantly increase the risk of developing chronic pancreatitis

The researchers pointed out that metabolic syndrome is a cluster of disorders that includes high blood sugar, abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, and blood lipid disorders, and this combination of factors greatly increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and other chronic illnesses.

The study relied on data from nearly 350,000 people from the UK Biobank, who were followed for an average of 18 years. During this period, 623 participants were diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis, and the risk of developing the disease was found to be nearly twice as high in people with metabolic syndrome compared to those without it.

Data analysis showed that the risk of developing pancreatitis increases with the accumulation of components of metabolic syndrome. The most influential factors were high blood glucose levels and abdominal obesity, which were more strongly associated with the development of the disease. Scientists also pointed to the role of systemic inflammation, which partially explains this association.

Based on the results, scientists indicated that controlling metabolic health, including weight management and blood sugar levels, may play an important role in preventing chronic pancreatitis.
