Antwerp's 3x3 basketball team has qualified for the Zadar World Tour after dominating and winning the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 Shibuya Challenger 2026 in Japan.
The FIBA 3x3 website reported on Monday that Antwerp has been consistent since the knockout stage. They opened with a crucial 18-15 victory over Ub in the quarterfinals and then eliminated Valencia Basket 18-16 in the semifinals, thanks to Dennis Donkor's nine points.
In the final, Antwerp immediately took control of the game. Jonas Foerts led the attack and put his team ahead from the start, ultimately closing the match with a convincing 22-15 score.
Foerts said his team's success was due to a balance between physical defense and composure during crucial moments.
He assessed that Antwerp was able to maintain focus throughout the tournament and performed effectively in every phase of the match.
Meanwhile, Donkor added that team cohesion is the main key.
He emphasized that all players played their respective roles well, especially in executing opportunities under pressure.
On the other hand, Shanghai had to settle for runner-up . Cameron Forte was a key player with consistent performances throughout the tournament, including a nine-point performance in a narrow 21-19 semifinal victory over Fuengirola.
Forte acknowledged that his team had given their all, but Antwerp performed more solidly in the final. He highlighted the fouls that hampered Shanghai's rhythm in the final.
Thanks to the tournament results, Antwerp, Shanghai, and Fuengirola have secured their places in the 2026 World Tour Zadar.
Meanwhile, Ivan Aurrecoechea from Valencia Basket was the tournament's top scorer with 39 points.
