How long do boiled eggs last

Dr. Olga Chystic, an internist, stated that boiled eggs should be consumed within a week, and must be kept refrigerated.

She says: “Raw eggs, when properly refrigerated, remain edible for several weeks. Boiled eggs have a shorter shelf life, so it is best to eat them within a week. If in doubt, the practical standard for edibility is their smell and appearance after peeling. Therefore, caution should be exercised when any undesirable changes are noticed.”

According to her, it is preferable to keep eggs in the refrigerator because they remain edible for a longer period at a constant low temperature.

She says: "But eggs should not be placed on the refrigerator door, as the temperature fluctuates frequently due to the door being opened, which leads to their quality deteriorating quickly. Therefore, it is best to keep eggs on a shelf closer to the back of the refrigerator, where the temperature is cooler and more stable."

The doctor points out that it is best to keep raw eggs in their original packaging, because the cardboard protects them from strange smells, prevents them from drying out, and reduces the risk of contamination.

She says: "There is no need to wash eggs beforehand. If the shell is damaged or the eggs are wet and have been left for a long time, this may increase the risk of germs entering them. Therefore, it is best to wash them immediately before cooking."
