Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee Raja Sapta Oktohari expressed his appreciation for the success of the Indonesian men's national field hockey team in advancing to the semifinals of the 2026 Asian Games Qualification round and securing a ticket to the 2026 Nagoya Asian Games.
" Congratulations on the Indonesian men's field hockey team's success in advancing to the semifinals and securing a ticket to the 2026 Nagoya Asian Games. And, I also congratulate them on joining the Indonesian contingent," said Okto, as he is familiarly known, in a written statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
With this success, the Indonesian men's field hockey team has qualified for the Asian Games through the qualifying round for the second time. Previously, the Indonesian men's field hockey team qualified for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.
Okto also hopes that the women's field hockey national team can follow in the footsteps of the men's field hockey national team when they appear in the qualifying round of the 2026 Asian Games which will take place at the Senayan Field Hockey Stadium, Jakarta on April 20-30, 2026.
The Indonesian men's national field hockey team advanced to the semifinals and secured their ticket to the 2026 Asian Games after defeating Thailand 1-0 in their final Pool A match of the 2026 Asian Games Qualifications at the Royal Thai Air Force Hockey Field in Bangkok, Thailand, on Monday (6/4).
In the semifinals, to be played on Friday (April 9), the Indonesian men's field hockey team will face Pool B leaders Sri Lanka, who are undefeated with 12 points. Meanwhile, Oman will face Pool B runner-up Uzbekistan, who has five points.
"Hopefully, the men's national field hockey team can advance to the final and win the title in the 2026 Asian Games qualifiers," said Okto.
