Nigeria: Death toll rises to 100 in one week from jihadist attacks

A terrorist attack targeted a military base located about 75 kilometers from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, causing several casualties, including Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah and several soldiers.

This attack brings the number of deaths recorded since Sunday to nearly 100, in a series of attacks carried out by armed groups in the country.

In a statement, President Bola Tinubu strongly condemned the attack and offered his condolences to the victims' families. He paid tribute to the courage of the soldiers, who successfully repelled the attackers and prevented Boko Haram from taking control of local communities.

This attack comes after the deaths of at least 90 people in several isolated villages in northwestern Nigeria, which have been targeted by violence in recent days.

Northern Nigeria is experiencing a resurgence of violence, fueled by terrorist groups like Boko Haram, but also by local criminal gangs, nicknamed "bandits ." These repeated attacks are plunging the region into growing insecurity.
