Winning nine medals at the 2026 Asian Para Track Championships marks the first step for the Indonesian para-cycling team in accumulating qualification points for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.
In the championship held in Tagaytay City, Philippines, from March 25-31, Indonesia won two gold medals, three silver medals, and four bronze medals from a total of five athletes.
Indonesian para-cycling coach Rizan Setyo Nugroho said the results showed positive progress and opened up opportunities for Indonesia to compete for a Paralympic ticket.
"We've adapted quite well to this new velodrome. The climate in Tagaytay City is almost the same as Indonesia, so we can achieve optimal results. Hopefully, we can qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics with the points we've collected," Rizan said in a written statement received.
Senior athlete Muhammad Fadli Imammuddin became the top medal contributor for Indonesia after winning two gold medals from the Individual Pursuit and 1 Kilometer Time Trial categories of men's C4, as well as one silver medal each from the Scratch Race and a bronze from the Elimination.
In addition, Fadli also recorded a personal best time in the men's 4,000-meter Individual Pursuit C4 event with a time of 4 minutes 48 seconds, or three seconds faster than his record at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
Medal contributions also came from Tifan Abid Alana who won two silver medals from the men's Individual Pursuit C2 and men's 1 Kilometer Time Trial C2, as well as two bronze medals from the Scratch Race and Elimination events.
