Petrochemical plant suspended due to fires caused by aerial interception

UAE authorities announced on Sunday the suspension of work at a well-known petrochemical plant in the capital, Abu Dhabi, following fires that broke out there as a result of falling debris from an aerial interception .

This came in a statement from the Abu Dhabi Media Office (government), as Iranian targeting of Arab countries, including the UAE, continues since the outbreak of the Israeli-American war on Tehran on February 28th.

The statement said that “the competent authorities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi are dealing with several fires that broke out at the Borouge petrochemical plant, following the fall of debris after a successful interception by air defense systems.”

She added: “Operations at the factory have been suspended immediately pending an assessment of the damage. No injuries have been reported so far, and we will provide you with updates as they become available.”

Founded in 1998, Borouge operates “one of the world’s largest polyolefin complexes, serving customers in more than 50 countries,” according to its website.

“The company has a diverse regional presence through its ownership of a number of logistics centers, warehouses and export gateways spread across the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and Asia, as well as a polymer composites manufacturing unit (CMP) in Shanghai.”

Since February 28, Israel and the United States have been waging a war on Iran that has resulted in thousands of Iranian deaths and injuries, while Tehran responds by launching missiles and drones towards Israel.

Iran also targets what it says are American interests in Arab countries, causing deaths and injuries and damaging civilian property, which has been condemned by the targeted countries.
