Members of the parliamentary group of the Yewwi Askan Wi coalition and those of the Patriots party of Ousmane Sonko held a press conference on Wednesday in Dakar.
Cheick Tidiane Youm reiterated his party's call to the government to do everything possible to open judicial investigations into the Covid-19 relief funds, as recommended by the Court of Auditors.
"One trillion was put on the table, as my predecessors reminded us earlier, simply to fight against death, to save Senegalese people. And meanwhile, these 1000 billion that were intended to fight against death, some shameless and unscrupulous ministers helped themselves like common criminals, " he said.
As for Ousmane Sonko, he attempted to galvanize the Senegalese people for the "pot-banging protest" he intends to organize on December 31st, coinciding with President Macky Sall's annual address, to express the people's discontent: " We want the whole world to hear the sound of pots and pans on December 31st at 8:00 PM (GMT - editor's note) to know that the people are not happy with Macky Sall and his government. I ask all Senegalese people of all ages to participate in this pot-banging protest to make as much noise as possible, because Macky Sall only understands this language."
The Pastef leader then announced a rally for January 6th, following one organized by civil society organizations. Last June, Ousmane Sonko had already organized a protest using pots and pans and honking horns in Dakar in the lead-up to the legislative elections.
