South Africa showcased its ambitions in the space sector at the Russian Space Forum in Moscow on Thursday. Pretoria aims to unlock the mysteries of the Moon, joining forces with China's planned lunar mission in two years.
"You were talking about flights as part of cosmonaut training, but we are also planning, by 2028, in partnership with the Chinese National Space Agency, to establish our presence on the Moon through the experiment we will conduct there. I think this new situation will create many opportunities, unlike the ISS where only a few countries could participate," said Humbulani Mudau, Director General of the South African National Space Agency.
Russian Space Week 2026 marks the 65th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's first flight into space.
