The NGO Sentebale is suing Prince Harry for defamation.

A charity co-founded by Prince Harry in Africa in tribute to his late mother, Princess Diana, has sued him for defamation after he resigned as its patron last year.

Sentebale, an organization that helps young people living with HIV in Botswana and Lesotho, filed a lawsuit last month in the High Court in London, according to court documents seen on Friday.

According to documents filed online, Harry and his friend Mark Dyer, a trustee of the charity, are facing a defamation lawsuit, both written and verbal. No documents were available.

Disagreements within the charity erupted in 2023 over a new fundraising strategy. Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, co-founders of the charity, stepped down as patrons in March 2025.

At the time, they stated that relations between the board and its chair, Sophie Chandauka, were irreparably damaged. Sophie Chandauka later accused Harry of orchestrating a campaign of intimidation and harassment to try to force her out.

The Charity Commission of England and Wales conducted an inquiry and criticized both parties for allowing this matter to play out in the open and damaging the organization's reputation, but found no evidence of widespread harassment or misogyny within Sentebale.

"Sentebale's problems have played out in the public eye, allowing a damaging conflict to harm the charity's reputation, risking overshadowing its many achievements and compromising its ability to help the very beneficiaries for whom it was created," said David Holdsworth, the commission's chief executive, in a statement released in August 2025.

Harry's spokesman had criticized the commission's report, while Chandauka had praised it.
