Football: Senegalese Aliou Cissé appointed as Angola's coach

Senegalese Aliou Cissé succeeds Patrice Baumelle as coach of the Palancas Negras, the Angolan national football team.

He was presented in Luanda on Thursday, taking everyone by surprise. The appointment came one day after the end of his stint with Libya, a country the 50-year-old had joined in March of last year, despite his contract running until 2027.

Aliou Cissé now has to revive a struggling Angolan national team, as the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, co-hosted by Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya, approach.

Cissé is familiar with the AFCON, having won the competition with the Lions of Teranga in 2021.
