Ghana: Mohammed Kudus' participation in the 2026 World Cup remains highly uncertain

Ghanaian international Mohammed Kudus' hopes of returning to the pitch before the World Cup after a quadriceps injury have been dealt a blow, with Tottenham confirming that the striker may require surgery.

Mohammed Kudus , 25, was initially expected to be out for three months after being injured in early January during Tottenham 's 1-1 draw against Sunderland , watched by Ghanaian national team coach Otto Addo .

Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi was expected to speak on Friday about Kudus' condition. The day before, the club had confirmed that Kudus "had suffered a setback in his recovery process following his injury . "

He had resumed training with the team last week, but he will now need to undergo further examination by a specialist and possibly surgery ," the club said in a statement. "We will keep you updated on any further developments in due course. We're all with you, Mo."

Kudus joined Spurs last summer from West Ham for a fee estimated at £55 million ($75 million). He has scored three goals in 26 appearances this season.

At the World Cup, Ghana will play their first Group L match against Panama on June 17 in Toronto. The Black Stars will then face England on June 23 in Foxborough before playing Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.

At the 2022 edition in Qatar, Kudus scored two goals in Ghana's 3-2 victory against South Korea. It was Ghana's only win, as they finished bottom of their group.
