Many people use air conditioners during hot weather, but most of them make a mistake when turning on the air conditioner
Dr. Ivan Yeremenko, an internist, points out that the main mistake people make when using air conditioners inside homes in hot weather is trying to suddenly lower the temperature below zero.
He says: "The main mistake is trying to suddenly lower the extreme temperature below zero. The ideal temperature inside the house should not be more than 5-7 degrees lower than the outside temperature, but should not be less than 22 degrees. Because sudden changes in temperature increase the pressure on the heart, blood vessels and respiratory system, and may cause headaches and exacerbate chronic diseases."
According to him, it is important to determine the direction of the airflow.
He says: “It should be avoided being directed directly at the face, neck, chest, or limbs. Prolonged exposure to a direct stream of cold air causes irritation of the mucous membranes, muscle spasms, and exacerbation of respiratory diseases. Therefore, it is better for the cold air to be distributed evenly throughout the room or directed upwards rather than towards the person.”
The doctor points out that air conditioners dry out the air in the room, so it is also helpful to use a humidifier.
He says: “Air conditioners noticeably dry out the air inside the room, reducing humidity to 20-30%, which irritates the mucous membranes of the nose and throat. Therefore, to maintain a comfortable humidity level (40-60%), it is advisable to use a humidifier or place open containers of water. It is also advisable to ventilate the room regularly and drink sufficient amounts of water, as this helps reduce stress on the body and helps to tolerate the heat without harming health.”
