Apple is reportedly starting to explore chip production collaborations

Apple has reportedly begun exploring chip production collaborations with Samsung and Intel in an effort to reduce dependence on its main supplier, TSMC.

Engadget on Tuesday (5/5) quoted a Bloomberg report stating that Apple had held initial talks with Intel and visited Samsung's chip production facility under construction in Texas, United States.

According to sources familiar with the matter, talks between the companies are still in the early stages.

For more than a decade, Apple has relied on TSMC as its primary supplier of chips for its iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices.

However, the company was reportedly uncomfortable relying on just one supplier for component supply.

Apple CEO Tim Cook previously highlighted the company's limited flexibility in its supply chain, which is exacerbated by the limited global availability of chips as some of its production is now diverted to the needs of the artificial intelligence industry.
