Ghana announced on Monday evening the immediate end of its collaboration with coach Otto Addo, just two months before the 2026 FIFA World Cup co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
This decision follows a series of disappointing results, notably marked by two recent defeats in friendly matches against Austria and Germany.
Fifty-year-old Otto Addo had already managed the national team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where the Black Stars were eliminated in the group stage. A former Borussia Dortmund player, he was urgently recalled in March 2024 on a 34-month contract following Ghana's disastrous performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Although he succeeded in qualifying the four-time African champions for the World Cup, his record remains mixed: 8 wins in 22 matches, the Ghanaian team missed the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, a first absence in 21 years.
While awaiting the appointment of a new coach, the Black Stars continue their preparations. They will face Panama on June 18, before playing England and Croatia in Group L.
