KOI supports the Minister of Youth and Sports in his fight for a budget to build sports achievements

The Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) supports Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir in his efforts to secure sufficient funding to develop Indonesia's sporting achievements.

"We stand firmly with the Minister of Youth and Sports to fight for a budget for Indonesia's sporting achievements," said KOI Chairman Raja Sapta Oktohari at the 2026 KOI Members Meeting in Jakarta on Saturday.

He said this was related to inadequate budget support for developing sports achievements due to government budget efficiency.

Okto said that developing Indonesia's sporting achievements currently faces serious challenges, particularly related to budget support.

On the other hand, Indonesia will face various multi-sport events this year such as the 2026 Asian Games, the 2026 Youth Olympics, and the 2026 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. After that, there will be the 2028 SEA Games and preparations for the 2028 Olympics.

"If we continue like this (inadequate preparation due to budget constraints), in the end, when performance is not good, the sports branch will be blamed, even though the struggle was difficult," he said.
