Liverpool's Egyptian international star Mohamed Salah is returning in time for a fitting send-off, but he will not be ready for the team's match against their host and traditional rival Manchester United on Sunday.
The Egyptian national team captain, who will leave Liverpool at the end of this season, suffered what appeared to be a hamstring injury during the Reds' victory over Crystal Palace last Saturday in the English Premier League.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed on Friday that Salah will play again this season.
Slot said in a press conference: "Salah is usually ready to participate faster than other players after minor injuries, and given that his injury is minor, we expect him to return in the latter part of the season, but not in the Manchester United match."
He added: "It is a relief that his injury is minor, allowing him to play with us and participate in the World Cup. If there is a player who deserves a farewell befitting him, it is certainly Mohamed Salah."
Salah announced in late March that he would be leaving the club a year before the end of his current contract with Liverpool, noting that this is his ninth season at Anfield.
Salah, 33, has had a lackluster season marked by a public falling out with Slot, scoring just seven Premier League goals after topping the scoring charts last season with 29.
Liverpool have four games remaining this season, which concludes on May 24 with a match against Brentford at Anfield.
Slots are currently fourth in the English Premier League, three points behind third-placed Manchester United, with both teams vying for a Champions League spot next season.
