Persebaya Surabaya coach Bernardo Tavares revealed that the key to his team's 4-0 victory over PSBS Biak was determined by the change in tempo of the game in the second half, in the 31st week of the BRI Super League 2025/2026.
"We moved the ball faster in the second half, also with the substitutions because the players who came on had different characteristics," Tavares said at a press conference after the match at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya, on Saturday evening.
According to him, in the first half the players controlled the ball for too long on one side of the field, making it easy for the PSBS Biak defense to read.
Therefore, while in the dressing room, he asked the players to maintain the positive things that had been done while increasing the intensity of the game.
"In the second half, we showed more intensity. It was crucial for us to score the first and second goals. After the second goal, chances came repeatedly," he said.
He assessed that the match was not easy because the visiting team had posed a threat through quick transitions and dead ball situations in the first half.
