Philippines says Bali Declaration marks ASEAN's dream of hosting the Olympics


 

  Philippine Sports Minister Patrick Gregorio called the Bali Declaration, which was born at the Southeast Asia Ministerial Meeting on Youth and Sports  2026, the beginning of Southeast Asia's big dream to one day host the Olympics as a region.

According to Gregorio, Southeast Asian countries are now starting to build collective strength through sports collaboration, youth development, and strengthening the region's sports economy.

"When the time comes for Southeast Asia to welcome the Olympics as one nation, it will be one of the greatest stories ever," Gregorio said in a written statement from the Ministry of Youth and Sports  received .

The Bali Declaration was agreed upon at the SEAMMYS 2026 forum in Bali, which brought together delegates from 11 Southeast Asian countries. The forum produced six points of agreement as a shared direction for the development of the region's youth and sports sectors.

The initiative, initiated by the Minister of Youth and Sports , Erick Thohir, is considered a crucial step in transforming Southeast Asian sports to make them more competitive on the global stage.
