South Africa saw a slight increase in consumer inflation, rising from 3.0% in February to 3.1% in March, according to data released Wednesday by Statistics South Africa.
Sectors affected by this increase include education, food and accommodation services, transportation, and housing.
Analysts, however, say this is the calm before the storm. The country is expected to face higher inflation in April.
It will be around 4%, fueled by the impact of soaring fuel prices on retail prices. This prospect is brought about by the war between Iran, Israel, and the United States.
While the country is largely dependent on imports for its petroleum product needs.
South Africa has recorded an 8% increase in electricity tariffs this month.
This situation also affects several other countries on the continent, while the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz persists, and peace negotiations in Pakistan between Tehran and Washington are struggling to progress.
