Deputy Chairperson of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives MY Esti Wijayati, requested that the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Indonesian Football Association prioritize coaching to prevent unrest among Indonesian football fans.
"Going forward, the approach developed must not only be oriented toward punishment, but also toward fostering and transforming the national football culture," said Esti Wijayati, as quoted from the official social media page of the Indonesian House of Representatives.
He highlighted a number of incidents of fan unrest that have again colored the Indonesian League competition, such as fan riots and damage to facilities after the Persipura vs. Adhyaksa match at Lukas Enembe Stadium, Jayapura, and the lighting of flares that disrupted security at the match in Sleman, Yogyakarta.
Commission X is paying serious attention to the incident because it has the potential to tarnish the image of national football amidst the process of improving competition governance following FIFA's evaluation.
It is considered necessary to continuously strengthen the match security system to ensure Indonesian football runs professionally and conducively.
