Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir stated that his ministry will continue to implement budget efficiency to ensure that development targets and needs in the youth and sports sectors are met.
"Of course, we at the Ministry of Youth and Sports will continue to streamline the budget to ensure it reaches its intended target. That's what we're currently doing," said Erick after attending the 2026 Member Meeting of the Indonesian Olympic Committee .
The Ministry of Youth and Sports' (Kemenpora) budget efficiency efforts have recently come under public scrutiny, having led to the cancellation of several programs, including the 2026 National Sports Week.
In addition, the National High-Achieving Sports Development Center Program (SPOBNAS) for the 2026 budget year was also temporarily suspended.
However, the Minister of Youth and Sports ensured that flagship programs such as preparing athletes for multi-sport events like the 2026 Asian Games would continue.
He said that he had heard input from the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) and sports branch administrators regarding funding to build sports achievements due to the impact of budget efficiency and so on.
