Trump says details of negotiations with Iran are confined to a very narrow circle

US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that “he and only a few people know the content of the negotiations with Iran,” referring to the secrecy of the ongoing talks with Tehran, during statements he made in the Oval Office in Washington.

Trump stressed that “Iran cannot be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon,” noting that what is happening to it “is not a war but a military operation ,” considering that this operation “should have started a long time ago.”

He added that Iran “is very keen to reach an agreement,” noting that its economy “is collapsing under the pressure and the very strong naval blockade,” as he put it, and stressing that Tehran “is not currently reaping any revenues from oil,” expressing his hope for a solution soon.

Speaking about the negotiations, Trump said he seeks to “get the entire Iranian nuclear file,” and that this will be done “one way or another,” noting that he is still engaged in negotiations despite the Democrats putting forward draft resolutions aimed at halting the escalation.

Trump also touched on the position of a number of European allies, saying that Italy “did not provide assistance with Iran” and that Spain was “very bad,” indicating the possibility of considering withdrawing US forces from the two countries, in a broader context that also includes a review of the US military presence in Europe, following his previous statements about  forces in Germany.
