Atalanta officially appoints Maurizio Sarri as new coach

Atalanta have officially appointed Maurizio Sarri as their new head coach after the coach parted ways with the Italian capital club, Lazio.

The 67-year-old coach is trusted to lead La Dea's first team to face the upcoming season.

"Atalanta is delighted to announce the appointment of Maurizio Sarri as head coach of the first team. Throughout his illustrious coaching career, Sarri has overseen over 800 professional matches, with a trophy haul that includes the UEFA Europa League and Serie A titles," Atalanta said in a statement on the club's official website on Monday.

Sarri replaces Raffaele Palladino, who was sacked last week along with seven members of his coaching staff. Sarri also terminated his contract with Lazio by mutual consent in May 2026, bringing his second spell in charge of the club to an end.

Sarri's arrival marks Atalanta's third managerial change in just over a year. The Bergamo club previously enjoyed nine years of stability under Gian Piero Gasperini, who led Atalanta to several historic achievements, including qualifying for the Champions League for the first time and winning the 2024 Europa League.

However, the era following Gasperini's departure was less smooth. His replacement, Ivan Juric, was sacked before Palladino was appointed in November. Under Palladino, Atalanta could only manage a seventh-place finish in Serie A in the 2025/26 season, securing promotion to the Conference League, their lowest league finish since the 2021/22 season.
