The Canadian national team will play in its third World Cup in its history after co-hosting this year's quadrennial tournament with Mexico and the United States, according to FIFA records cited.
After qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, having already qualified for the 1986 and 2022 editions, they have now qualified directly for the 2026 World Cup as co-hosts, with the tournament welcoming 48 participating teams for the first time.
In the 2026 World Cup, Canada is on a mission to achieve its first victory in this tournament, after in the previous two editions of the six matches played they always suffered defeats, which also buried their dreams of getting past the group stage.
Canada's challenge for a first win will begin in Group B as they look to secure a spot in the round of 32 against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Switzerland and Qatar.
The first match of the team nicknamed The Canucks will take place against Bosnia and Herzegovina at BMO Field, Toronto.
Following that match, the FIFA world number 30 team will play two Group B matches at BC Place, Vancouver, against Qatar and also against Switzerland
Track record in the World Cup
Canada will compete in the 2026 World Cup as co-hosts alongside Mexico and the United States, making this their third appearance at FIFA's most prestigious tournament.
The Canuks' two previous appearances came in Mexico 1986 and Qatar 2022. In the 1986 edition, Canada made its World Cup debut after topping a qualifying group that included Guatemala and Haiti.
In the 1986 edition, in the same group as France, Hungary, and the Soviet Union, Canada did not get a single point because they lost 0-1 to Les Bleus, and 0-2 to Hungary and the Soviet Union respectively.
Continuing to the 2022 edition in Qatar, the second World Cup after a 36-year absence, Canada, under the guidance of current Indonesian national team coach John Herdman, secured their place in the World Cup after finishing top of their group in the third round of Concacaf qualifying.
In Qatar, Canada was drawn in a tough group alongside Belgium, Croatia, and Morocco. Their journey in the Arab world began with a 1-0 loss to Belgium, followed by a 4-1 loss to Croatia, and then a 2-1 draw against Morocco, which then advanced to the semifinals.
