The World Boxing Association (WBA) has ordered Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi to enter the ring to fight for the vacant lightweight world title due to the belt's owner, Gervonta Davis, still being entangled in a legal case.
"Schofield and Bahdi will fight for the vacant WBA lightweight title in a fight that will shape the future of one of boxing's most competitive divisions," the WBA said on its website, which was monitored.
Davis captured the WBA lightweight world title in 2019 after holding the super featherweight world title since 2018. The American boxer has a brilliant professional record with 30 wins including 28 knockouts and one draw.
Davis is currently facing ongoing legal proceedings in the United States that could result in a trial and affect his ability to defend his title within the timeframe set by WBA regulations.
