A Lebanese man was killed in an Israeli airstrike in the south of the country on Monday, becoming the first casualty since Iran and the United States announced an agreement to end the war on all fronts, including Lebanon.
The official Lebanese news agency reported that the Israeli raid targeted a car in southern Lebanon, saying that “Israeli drones targeted a car at the Kfar Tebnit roundabout in the Nabatieh district, resulting in the death of its driver.”
On Monday, the Israeli army continued to carry out bombing and shelling operations in southern Lebanon, ignoring the US-Iranian understanding to end military operations that include Lebanon.
The official Lebanese news agency reported that “the Israeli army targeted journalist Hadi Abdel Moneim Hoteit in the town of Kfar Tebnit in the Nabatieh district with a shell fired near him, resulting in him being wounded in the leg.”
She explained that the Israeli army detonated a booby-trapped, remotely piloted “M113” military vehicle on the Haris-Tibnin road, after it had advanced earlier towards the area.
The towns of Kfar Tebnit and Nabatieh al-Fawqa were also subjected to Israeli artillery shelling, while the Israeli army carried out two bombing operations in the town of Khiam in the south of the country.
These attacks come despite Tehran's assertion that ending the war in Lebanon is an "integral part" of the understanding reached between Tehran and Washington.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei said on Monday in a press statement: “Ending the war in Lebanon is an integral part of the agreement with the United States.”
On Sunday evening, Washington and Tehran announced that they had reached an agreement, mediated by Pakistan, to end military operations on various fronts, including Lebanon, open the Strait of Hormuz, and lift the naval blockade on Iran. The agreement is to be signed in Switzerland next Friday.
Despite the agreement, the Israeli army carried out bombing and shelling operations on Monday in a number of towns in southern Lebanon, while displaced people were recorded returning to southern villages, coinciding with calls launched by municipalities in the region for residents to hold off on returning.
Since March 2, Israel has been waging a large-scale aggression against Lebanon, which has left 3,783 martyrs and 11,699 wounded, in addition to more than one million displaced people, according to data from the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
Israel occupies areas in southern Lebanon, some for decades, and others since the previous war between 2023 and 2024, while during the current aggression it has penetrated more than 10 kilometers.
Israel also occupies Palestine and territories in Syria, and refuses to withdraw from them and allow the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as stipulated in the relevant United Nations resolutions.
