Poland will ban students under 16 from using gadgets in schools

The Polish government has just approved a draft law that would prohibit students under 16 from using mobile phones and smartwatches while on school grounds.

According to Engadget's report on Wednesday, the draft regulation still needs to be approved by parliament and Polish President Karol Nawrocki to become law.

If approved and passed into law, students will not be allowed to use cell phones or smart watches during school hours, including during breaks and after-school activities.

Students will still be allowed to bring devices to school, but school administrators will be required to provide a special place for students to store their devices until school is over.

Teachers and school staff will not be affected by the implementation of these provisions, as will students who are sick, people with disabilities, and students with other special needs who require electronic device support.

Other students will be able to request permission to use their phones in an emergency.

Once approved, the law regulating restrictions on student use of gadgets will come into force in the new academic year starting on September 1, 2026 in Poland.
