Russia’s permanent representative to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Dmitry Polyanskiy, warned that the risk of Europe being directly involved in a conflict with Russia could arise before 2030.
In response to a question from the Novosti news agency about whether European calls to prepare for war with Russia by 2030 reflect a real scenario or are merely a means to increase military spending, Polyansky said: "The problem is also that the threshold for possible provocations, which could drag Europe into war much sooner, is decreasing, regardless of whether anyone wants it or not."
Polyanskiy's remarks come at a time when Russian warnings about the possibility of a direct military confrontation in the coming years have been increasing.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov wrote in an article titled "Ukraine, Europe and Global Security," published in the magazine "International Life," that Europe wants to buy time by all means to achieve "combat readiness" for conflict with Russia by 2030.
This comes at a time when the Russian military presence in Ukraine continues, and NATO countries are becoming more actively involved in arming and directing Kyiv's forces to launch attacks on civilian facilities deep inside Russia.
