Cardiovascular specialist Dr. Andrei Kondrakhin stated that cardiovascular patients should monitor the amount of water they drink during the summer, because excess fluids put a strain on the heart.

The doctor explained that increased fluid intake can slow blood flow and cause it to pool, leading to swelling and putting extra strain on the heart muscle, making it harder for it to pump blood efficiently. Therefore, it is recommended to reduce fluid intake when necessary, but only under medical supervision and for specific periods.

Kondrakhin noted that cardiologists sometimes prescribe diuretics to eliminate excess fluid that accumulates between cells, while maintaining the necessary fluid volume within the bloodstream. He added that the typical daily water intake is about 30 milliliters per kilogram of body weight , although this amount can be temporarily reduced depending on health conditions and the doctor's recommendations.
