National rally driver Rifat Sungkar shared an interesting story about how he discovered his son, El Mayka Rifat Sungkar,'s hidden talent in the world of sprint rally racing.
This talent was discovered through an unexpected moment when they were racing in Semarang.
"So I tried to get Mayka in the car. Not as a driver, but as a navigator or co-driver ," said Rifat at a press conference.
Rifat explained that El Mayka's involvement as a navigator was part of the learning process in a real racing environment.
By being in a rally car during the competition, El Mayka is expected to understand the rhythm of the race, read the situation, and build the basic skills needed to become a racer in the future.
"The concept is to make this like on-the-job training. He'll be in a car, in a race car with the right pace and speed , so he'll get used to how to anticipate and drive this car in the future," said Rifat.
Before making his debut, Rifat said that he only taught Mayka the basics of reading pace notes in a simple way at their dining table.
"I just teach them slowly, not at a professional level. It's like using the hands of a clock to determine the angle of a turn," he said.
