Run for Equality 2026, a safe sports space for people with disabilities

The charity run event titled Run for Equality 2026 will be held  at Senayan Park with distance categories of 3K, 5K, and 10K.

Carrying the spirit of Equal Steps, Equal Play, the presence of Run for Equality is to create a safe and equal sports space for all children, especially girls and children with disabilities.

"Through Run for Equality 2026, we want to encourage the creation of more inclusive sports and public spaces, where every child and young person, including those with disabilities, has equal opportunities to participate, play, and develop without discrimination," said Plan Indonesia Executive Director Dini Widiastuti in an official statement.

This initiative is important considering that the inclusivity challenges faced by people with disabilities in Indonesia are still relatively high.

Although Law No. 8 of 2016 guarantees the rights of people with disabilities, various challenges remain in daily life. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture shows that only 17.2 percent of people with disabilities of working age have access to formal education.

Moreover, more than half of people with disabilities in Indonesia still face barriers in accessing basic services such as education, health, employment, and inclusive and safe public spaces.
