US President Donald Trump called on gas stations in his country to immediately lower gasoline prices, arguing that they do not reflect the current decline in oil prices and warning traders against raising prices.
Trump said on Tuesday, "Gas stations must immediately lower their prices! They are too high considering that oil is now $68 a barrel and is going down even further."
He added, "Retailers must respond quickly to this statement and do what they know is right—lower prices for our great American people! There will be no price gouging; it is totally illegal. If retailers don't do this, they will have big problems!"
Trump said, "Start by targeting a price closer to $2.50 a gallon. California should also stop imposing these exorbitant taxes on gasoline. Soon the tax will be higher than the value of the product itself, and the United States will not accept this, nor will the people of California, who are being taken advantage of by these ridiculous taxes and by their own government."
Trump criticized these taxes, calling for them to be reduced and arguing that they burden consumers.
